Frequently Asked Questions

How do I extract audio from a video?
Upload a video file (MP4, WebM, MOV, or AVI), choose your desired audio bitrate, optionally trim the clip, then click Extract Audio. The tool saves the audio track as an MP3 file.
What does bitrate mean?
128 kbps provides acceptable quality for speech and podcasts. 192 kbps is good for most music. 256 kbps is high quality. 320 kbps is the maximum MP3 quality, virtually indistinguishable from the original.
Can I trim the audio before extracting?
Yes. Enable the Trim option and use the start/end sliders to select the portion you want. Only the selected segment will be extracted to MP3.
What audio quality settings should I use?
For voice recordings and podcasts, 128 kbps is sufficient. For music, use 256 or 320 kbps. Higher bitrates produce better quality but larger file sizes.
Is it legal to extract audio from videos?
Extracting audio from videos you own or have permission to use is legal. Extracting copyrighted content for redistribution without permission may violate copyright law. Always respect intellectual property rights.

About Video to MP4

What this tool does

Video tools convert between formats (MP4, WebM, GIF), trim clips to a specific time range, compress video for sharing, and extract frames or audio. Processing uses FFmpeg compiled to WebAssembly, so everything stays in your browser.

Why use this tool

Uploading raw video to an online converter exposes your content and takes bandwidth. With client-side processing, you keep full control of your footage while getting quick format conversions and basic edits done without desktop software.

How it works

The tool loads FFmpeg.wasm into memory, reads your video file, and executes the requested pipeline: re-encoding to a target codec, cutting at specified timestamps, or reducing resolution and bitrate. Output is written to a virtual file system and offered for download.

Pro tip

H.264 inside an MP4 container is the most universally supported combination. For web-only playback, VP9 in WebM gives better compression at the same quality.
